BBC South East Disability Sports Personality Awards (December 2006)
We travelled up to Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium on a cold and wet Monday night. We all arrived safely, and headed for the reception to find out the plans for the evenings award ceremony. BBC South East Today news were filming the event later that evening, which meant there were lots of cameras around the building. The room for the evening was full of different sports personalities including my club mate Lisa Dobriskey; the Commonwealth 1500m Gold Medallist.

We were shown to our table and settled down to enjoy an extremely nice 3 course meal, coffee and mints. On every table were sports questions, which we had to answer. The table that gave the most correct answers received some wonderful prizes. After the meal and the sports quiz everyone settled down and prepared for the main event of the evening; the BBC South East Disabled Sports Personality Awards. In my category group for Disabled Athletes there were 4 people selected; 3 from Kent and 1 from the South East. The winner of the Disabled Sports Personality supported by Pfizer was won by Alastair McKean a rower from Canterbury. Alistair also works as a Teacher.

My club mate Lisa Dobriskey won the Sporting Achievement Award supported by South Kent College. I was really pleased for Lisa as she has worked really hard in training, Well done! The winner of the BBC South East Sports Personality 2006 was won by Mel Clewlow a hockey International from Canterbury; Mel won the Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne this year".
